The Year of the Princess

Hi! I'm here! You thought the cramps had killed me, didn't you? Friday night was full of horrible, labor-like cramps that left me doubled over moaning, but the next day was much better, and today they are gone completely.

But enough about my uterus. Welcome to 2006! We have some grand plans for this year, including a trip to the happiest place on earth! I've only been to Disneyland once in sixth grade, so I am just as excited as our kids. We're trying to figure out the best places to stay and eat, so any suggestions would be appreciated. The main event on the trip will be the Disney Princess lunch, where we get to meet five different princesses as they come around one by one to visit us at our table. This is going to BLOW A~'S MIND. The (stupid, annoying) princesses are her thing, the thing around which every day revolves. As much as the princess obsession drives me crazy, it really is going to be wonderful to see her eyes light up when she gets to meet the people who she loves so much. Plus, it will mend the wounds from Christmas. Oh, didn't you hear? Santa is in the doghouse, big time. He didn't bring the Snow White dress that was requested. I have to take Santa's side on this one, though, since instead of informing Santa by writing him a letter like any other normal kid, it was more important to write to the princesses. Santa didn't really realize how important this Snow White dress was, and besides, there was some really good deals on eBay. Humph. Santa is a little defensive.

Anyway. What about you guys? What are your plans for this year? I don't really believe in resolutions, since they stress me out, but a few goals I'd like to accomplish this year are:

- Clean the toilets more than [edited for your peace of mind].

- Buy a new vacuum (woo-hoo! I dream big, guys!).

- Cook a wider variety of meals.

- Work on continuing to trust and support myself more. I may need your help with this one.

I hope everyone had a fun New Year's celebration and started this year off on the right foot! It's going to be a great year, I can FEEL it.

The Embassy Suites in Buena Park is really nice, and it's pretty close to Disneyland. That's where my family used to stay when we went to Disneyland

Happy New Year! You've got some nice resolutions! I feel like I've already accomplished a ton just by making it out of bed before Jan 1 was almost non-existent.

That's where I stayed a couple years ago. It was really nice and it's about two blocks away from the main gates, so it's very easy to get to the park.

Yes! Seconding the Dyson. Ours is crap, and sometimes I sneak over to the in-laws to do a little adulterous vacuuming. Well, not really, but I'm thinking in a covetous way as I run ours for the 3rd time in a week because the first two times merely brushed around the dog hair and crackers.

I'm partial to my Hyper-Allergenic Oreck. Plus you can always get cool free gifts w/ purchase like a canister vac and a cordless iron (which is very handy and small for traveling).

Well worth my $369 plus shipping and handling.

Best place to stay - There's Super 8 on Disnelyand Drive that's a 1 block walk away from a tram station, where they'll drop you off right at the gates of the parks. It's not the swankiest place in town, but it IS cheap, and the service is great. I've stayed there 3 times, the last time with my whole family. Kids under 12 are free, and I think we reserved our rooms online and only paid like $35 a night for a double room (it was off season, so depending on when you go, we've paid as much as $50). They have a continental breakfast which is just donuts and coffee, but works well enough, and the fireworks at night are PERFECTLY viewable from their front sidewalk. I highly recommend it to anyone. (we stayed at the 915 addy)

Also - get your tickets to the parks online, you can usually save a few bucks getting them there, as well as getting "park hopper" tickets - that way you can go from one park to the other anytime during the day. California Adventure is nice, but not as much to do as there is in disneyland, so it's cool to have the ability to pop back over to Disneyland.

you MUST do the tower of terror. OMFG - it's SO COOL!

It was the first (and unfortunately last) family vacation we got to go on before my husband passed away - it was incredible, and I'd be happy to pass on any other money saving tips. I bought the park tickets before hand, (and plane tickets of course) and I spent a total of $600 bucks for a 6 day 5 night stay for 5 people while we were there - and that included build a bears, and other highly desired souviners and of course, food. heh. (bring a cooler for the room (ice is free), hit the grocery store, pack a lunch and carry it in. saves a TON o cash right there.)

The Embassy Suites is the best place to stay at disney land. It's like $90-115 a night, but it's totally worth it. They come with two rooms (plenty of room for the kids) and you get a free breakfast. But not just a muffin and glass of juice. You can have pancakes, an omlet, cereal, oatmeal, eggs, bacon, basically anything you want for breakfast. We always figure we'll spend $30 a morning on breakfast anyways, so subtract the price of breakfast, and it's really only a $70 a night hotel. Perfectly reasonable for the area. It's a little farther from disneyland but there is a free shuttle every half an hour, so no big deal.

Oh and did I mention you get a living room and a bedroom, very nice for kids taking naps. And a fridge, for snacks. It's the best place we stayed in all our trips to disneyland. Some of the other places we stayed just felt dirty.

Have a great time!
